President’s Section

Dear friends and colleagues,

As the new President of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, it is with great pleasure and honor that I write to you today. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity and to work alongside each and every one of you to further advance the field of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy.

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the outgoing President and the entire Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication to the society. Your efforts have made this organization the premier global network for cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, and I am committed to building on this legacy.

As we embark on this new journey together, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the trust and confidence that you have placed in me. I am committed to upholding the high standards and values that our society embodies, and I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that we continue to make meaningful contributions to the field of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy.

I believe that our society is uniquely positioned to address the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. With our collective expertise, passion, and dedication, we can advance the science of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, enhance patient care, and improve outcomes for individuals around the world.

As we move forward, I encourage you to share your ideas, insights, and perspectives with me and with the broader society. Together, we can achieve great things and make a real difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you for your support and confidence. I look forward to working with all of you and to the many successes that we will achieve together.

ISCP News

Mario Maranhao and Chuichi Kawai.

Mario Maranhao Emeritus: we were saddened to hear about the passing of Mario Maranhao at the end of 2022. Prof Mario Maranhao was a professor at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and at the Evangelical Faculty of Paraná. He was a founding doctor of the Society of Cardiology of Paraná of ​​the SBC, and the third president of the society. As president, he organized the Brazilian Congress of Cardiology in Curitiba, in 1981 where he was elected president of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC) (1982-83). As president of SBC, he joined international activities and brought the Inter-American Congress of Cardiology to Rio de Janeiro, in 1989. At this congress, Prof Maranhão was elected president of the Inter-American Society of Cardiology, and brought the World Congress of Cardiology to Rio de Janeiro, in 1998. At this congress, he was elected president of the World Federation of Cardiology. During this period, he participated as a representative of the World Federation of Cardiology in Geneva, Switzerland. Prof Maranhão was dedicated and hard-working making a large contribution to the international recognition of Brazilian cardiology and of the ISCP of which he was a Director for 13 years until 2010. He continued to support the Society and was a regular visitor to the ISCP booth at the ESC. Our condolences go to his wife Carmen and his family.


Congratulations to Dr Surakit Nathisuwan, ISCP Thai Governor, who recently co-authored a publication titled: Characterization of drug-related problems and evaluation of pharmacist interventions in the cardiovascular intensive care settings in Thailand


The Best Posters from the 27th Annual Scientific Meeting of the ISCP, held in Bucharest 27-29 October 2022: A total of 23 abstracts were selected by the judges as candidates for the Best Abstract Awards. These are available on the ISCP website and will be published in European Cardiology Review in April.


A to Z of CV Pharmacotherapy Series: Nebivolol: No limb pain? Was the 6th and last webinar from the A to Z of CV Pharmacotherapy’s first series and was held on 8 March 2023. It featured ISCP President Sang Hong Baek as the keynote speaker, and ISCP Governors from the UK, Hong Kong, and Poland. If you didn’t join live you can still watch it on demand. Please note that all webinars in the A to Z series are CME accredited when attended live. 1 CME credit will be granted upon confirmation of successful attendance.

Due to the great success of the webinars, the positive feedback, and repeated support from attendees, we are currently working on the second series of the A to Z of CV Pharmacotherapy, so keep an eye out for more details.


ISCP Endorsed meetings: The Meetings Committee endorsed the 10th Cuban Congress of Cardiology meeting which will be held on 7 November 2023.


ISCP 2023: 28th International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy Annual Scientific Meeting:

The ISCP Annual Scientific Meeting is being held in conjunction with KSCP and KSCVP meeting at Conrad Seoul, South Korea. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format both in-person and online meetings.

News from World Heart Federation (WHF)

New CVD Scorecards in Australia and Malaysia: Scorecards have already been created for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, as part of a larger project led by the European Heart Network.

New WHF Board 2023-24: WHF also welcomed the new members of the Committees and Expert Groups.

European Cardiology Review (ECR) – Official ISCP Journal

The European Cardiology Review (ECR) is a PubMed-indexed, peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal comprising balanced review articles, systematic reviews, expert opinions, and editorials. The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Juan Carlos Kaski, along with Deputy Editor Pablo Avanzas, and is supported by an editorial board of world-renowned physicians.

The ECR website also provides access to a large range of additional relevant resources such as special focus collections, webinars, on-demand videos, and podcasts.

ECR volume 18 is available here with all articles free to read and download via the journal website. Articles include Time to Integrate Sex in Management of Aortic Valve Stenosis; Cardio-oncology in 2022; Dyspnea in Oncological Patients: a Brain Teaser; Efficacy of Ranolazine to Improve Diastolic Performance in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis and Comment on the ESC Guidelines 2022 for the Management of Patients with Ventricular Arrhythmias and the Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death.
