Gábor Széplaki, MD, PhD graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Semmelweis University Budapest. He earned his PhD degree at the School of PhD Studies, Semmelweis University Budapest in 2008, with his thesis entitled ‘Role of the complement system in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic vascular diseases‘. He is an author or co-author of a total 20 indexed scientific papers and is a reviewer in highly esteemed scientific journals.
For his research work he received the nationally well acknowledged ‘Junior Prima Award in Hungarian Science Category’ in 2009. His field of interest in scientific research includes atherosclerosis, cardiac electrophysiology, complement system, heart failure, immunology, ischemia/reperfusion injury, myocardial ischemia, myocardial remodelling and reverse remodelling.
He became Governor in the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy in 2009 representing Hungary. He is member of the European Society of Cardiology, the European Heart Rhythm Association, the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, the Hungarian Society of Cardiology, the Hungarian Society of Atherosclerosis and the Hungarian Society of Immunology. He is lecturer in graduate and post-graduate courses at the Semmelweis University Budapest and he is the present Secretary of the Students’ Scientific Association of the Semmelweis University.
Currently, Gábor Széplaki, MD, PhD is a cardiologist in training at the Heart Center, Semmelweis University Budapest. In the clinical work, his interest focuses on invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias (cardiac electrophysiology, pacemaker and device therapy) and the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of chronic heart failure.
