Jay Cohn, M.D., ISCP President

Professor of Medicine, Cardiovascular Division
Director, Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, University of Minnesota

I am saddened to report the death of Elliot Rapaport, M.D., one of our founding members, and a long-term valued contributor to the activities of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy.

Elliot was Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, and led the cardiology program at San Francisco General Hospital for more than 30 years.

He organized and hosted the 2nd international symposium of ISCP in San Francisco and served as President of the ISCP from 1991-1993.

Dr. Rapaport’s leadership in cardiology includes his serving as President of the American Heart Association in 1974 and President of the World Heart Federation from 1996- 1997.

But the features that endeared him to his colleagues integrity and his endless fund of knowledge.  He served as a role model for a vast number of academic cardiologists who benefited from his counsel.

Elliot was a renaissance man whose interest ranged widely beyond medicine.  His contributions to ISCP and to the world of medicine will long be remembered.
