Jay Cohn, M.D., ISCP President

Professor of Medicine, Cardiovascular Division
Director, Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, University of Minnesota

The Beijing joint meeting of ISCP with the Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology on October 10-11 was a great success. More than 10,000 people attended the meeting, mostly from China, and the attendance at  our sessions in the main auditorium was excellent. Simultaneous translation was provided and the speakers at our sessions provided remarkably comprehensive and timely subject reviews.

The enthusiasm of the audience and the media who attended the meeting emphasized to me the importance of the educational goals we are trying to achieve.  There is a worldwide search for information that can enhance management of cardiovascular disease.  The profession increasingly recognizes the gap between what we know and what is being practiced in the medical community.

Meetings like this provide a remarkable opportunity for our message to be disseminated where it can improve the quality of health care, not only in deprived communities but in affluent areas where enlightened care may be deficient.

ISCP received high visibility in Beijing.  We should move forward with renewed energy.
