Health care reform, just passed in the United States, should eventually make millions more Americans eligible for pharmacotherapy that can slow progression of cardiovascular disease and reduce morbidity and mortality.
Similarly, worldwide use of effective therapy is lower than it should be in many countries, especially those with less well-developed economies. Pharmaceutical companies should be pleased at this potential expansion of their markets, but we as responsible clinical academic leaders must rise to the challenge of educating health care workers about the rational and effective use of these powerful pharmacologic tools.
In this critical time we are dedicated to enhancing our educational efforts through our new and expanded website, our participation in regional and international
meetings, and our Journal.
The need for objective information about cardiovascular drug therapy has never
been greater. I enlist all our professional members and supporters to aid in this endeavour.
